Basketball Wives LA is an American reality television series that premiered on August 29, 2011 on VH1. It is the Los Angeles-based spin-off of Basketball Wives. The show follows the lives of a group of women who have all been somehow romantically linked to professional basketball players. On March 27, 2017, VH1 announced the series would be retitled to the original series, Basketball Wives, now that the cast of the original series and spin-off have converged, and returned with its sixth season that premiered on April 17, 2017.

Basketball Wives LA was revealed on June 20, 2011, with Kimsha Artest, Gloria Govan, Laura Govan, Jackie Christie and Imani Showalter as the cast. Malaysia Pargo and Draya Michele were announced as part of the cast in the series' July 2011 press release. Kimsha Artest stopped showing up for filming because she did not agree with the "shenanigans and drama", which explains why she was not featured in more than one episode. Tanya Williams was to be the eighth official "wife" but left the series after two episodes. The series premiered on August 29, 2011, to 1.81 million viewers.
The second season debuted on September 10, 2012, with the premiere attracting 1.82 million viewers. Imani Showalter did not return because she felt that reality television wasn't for her, and she moved back to New York. Brooke Bailey joined as a main cast member, with Adiz "Bambi" Benson joining in a recurring role.
Executive producer of the series, Shaunie O'Neal, announced that the series would be receiving a major update for the third season. Filming began in August 2013, with new members added to the mix. Gloria Govan Barnes and her sister Laura Govan confirmed their exit with their own series possibly in the works. Brooke Bailey confirmed via Twitter that she would also not return. Season 3 premiered on February 17, 2014, with British Williams, Brandi Maxiell, and Sundy Carter joining the cast. The third-season premiere acquired 1.95 million viewers making it the highest rated premiere for the series and a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 rating demographic. This season is also the first and only of the series to reach over 2 million viewers for six consecutive weeks.
The fourth season of Basketball Wives LA began production in November 2014 & wrapped in early April 2015. The season premiered on July 12, 2015, moving from Monday to Sunday nights. The fourth-season premiere acquired 1.90 million viewers and a 1.0 in the adults 18-49 rating demographic. Mehgan James of Bad Girls Club and executive producer Shaunie O'Neal, joined the cast as main cast members. Angel Brinks, Patrice Curry, and ami Roman joined the cast as recurring cast members.
On September 23, 2015, Basketball Wives LA was renewed for a fifth season by VH1. Filming began in January 2016 & wrapped in early June. VH1 announced that the fifth season will premiere on July 17, 2016. The fifth-season premiere acquired 1.05 million viewers and a 0.5 in the adults 18-49 rating demographic, making it the lowest rated premiere for the series. Draya Michele and Mehgan James departed from the show. Jackie Christie, Malaysia Pargo, Brandi Maxiell, Shaunie O' Neal, Tami Roman and Angel Brinks returned for the season. LaTosha Duffey and Angel Love joined the main cast.

- Draya Michele (Seasons 1-4) -- Fiancée of Orlando Scandrick. Didn't have a very nice welcome to the group. The other wives resented her for being a homewrecker. Allegations of police reports were on her son were brought up but she denied all of them. Towards the end of the season the girls started to like Draya more and more. During season two a rivalry with Brooke ignited, almost resulting in an altercation. During season three a rivalry between Jackie's Daughter Chantel ignited. Another rivalry was formed between her and Sundy resulting in an altercation between the two. During season four the friendship she had with Malayasia and Brandi came to an end. A rivalry between her and former cast mate Meghan ignites. After her friendship with Malaysia and Brandi end Draya decides that she doesn't want to be around the ladies anymore and then quits the show.
- Imani Showalter (Season 1) -- Ex-fiancée of Stephen Jackson. Forms rivalries with Draya and Jackie through the show. Later on in the season she and Draya make amends.
- Malaysia Pargo (Seasons 1-5) -- Ex-wife of Jannero Pargo. Malaysia didn't have the best welcome into the group. A feud between her and Laura didn't go so well, resulting in an altercation between the two. She was quickly resented by the group until the two became really good friends. During the second season one of her best friends Bambi is welcomed into the group, she then is made the peacemaker between Bambi and Gloria. During the third season another one of her good friends Brandi is welcomed into the group. During the same season rivalries between her and Brittish and between her and Sundy ignite. Malaysia was able to get past her differences with British, but her and Sundy get into an altercation that doesn't end well. During the fourth season Malaysia is going through a divorce and the passing of her brother. We also see the four plus year friendship she had with Draya come to and end. During the fifth season a rivalry between her and Angel brinks ignite, resulting in a mutual understanding. Malaysia is currently a main cast member of Basketball Wives
- Tanya Williams (Season 1) -- Ex-wife of Jayson Williams quits the show after a confrontation with Jackie and a physical altercation between Malaysia and Laura
- Kimsha Artest (Season 1) -- Ex-wife of Ron Artest quit the show after the second episode due to being done with the drama.
- Laura Govan (Seasons 1-2) (Cameo Appearances Season 5) -- Ex-girlfriend of Gilbert Arenas. Is a very charismatic person. During season one we see the struggles of her break up losing it all. We also wee the rivalry form between her and Draya. During season two she clashes with Draya once again. She also clashes with Jackie when she meets with Jackie's daughter and causes problems.
- Gloria Govan (Seasons 1-2) -- Ex-wife of Matt Barnes. Is a laid back comedic chick. During the first two season we a rivalry with her and Jackie form ending on a very sour note. During the second season we see a rivalry formed between her and Bambi which almost results in an altercation. The cameras also capture the divorce of her and her then husband Matt Barnes
- Jackie Christie (Season 1-5) -- Wife of Doug Christie. Jackie is a fun-loving firecracker. She is best known for her emotional outburst on sensitive subjects. During the first two seasons the other wives resent her for her lying and starting problems. During season three she's friends with Sundy carter who has multiple problems with the cast. During season four most of the ladies ease up o her. A rivalry between her and Brandi ignite resulting in an altercation. Another rivalry between her and Mehgan ignite resulting in an altercation. During season five a small rivalry is formed between her and the Angels. Jackie eventually got over all of it and became friends with the Angels again. Jackie is currently a main cast member of Basketball Wives
- Brooke Bailey (Season 2) (Cameo Appearances Season 5)-- ex-Girlfriend of Rashard Lewis and ex-girlfriend of Vernon Macklin is introduced to the season as a friend of Draya's and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Jackie which leads to an altercation. Later the two make amends. She also forms a rivalry with Draya which almost ends in an altercation.
- Sundy Carter (Season 3) (Guest Appearances Seasons 2 & Season 5)-- Ex-girlfriend Of Larry Hughes, is introduced in season two as a friend of Jackie's. After being added as a series regular on season three she then becomes a new addition to the group. She quickly stirred the pot. She formed a rivalry with Draya which resulted in a altercation between the two, during the altercation Malaysia hit Sundy in the eye giving her a black eye. She formed a rivalry with Brandi resulting in a an altercation during the season three reunion.
- Brandi Maxiell (Seasons 3-5) -- Wife of Jason Maxiell was introduced in season three as the best friend of Malaysia's and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Brittish, later they make amends. She forms another rivalry with Sundy, resulting in an altercation between the two at the season three reunion. During season four the cameras capture the struggles of her marriage as well as the struggles of her friendships with Jackie, Draya, Tami and Shaunie. She forms a rivalry with Jackie, resulting in an altercation between the two.They later make amends. She forms another rivalry with Draya, resulting with their friendship ending. She forms another rivalry with Tami, almost resulting in an altercation between the two. She later bumps head with Shaunie, resulting with an argument between the two. During season five we see Brandi struggle to make amends with the group. She is currently a supporting cast member of Basketball Wives
- Brittish Williams (Season 3) -- Fiancée of Lorenzo Gordon. Brittish is introduced in season three as a friend of Jackie's and a new addition to the group. During season three she forms a rivalry between Malaysia almost resulting in an altercation between the two. They later make amends. She also bumps heads with Brandi. Later the two make amends as well.
- Mehgan James (Season 4) -- Ex-girlfriend of Kedrick Brown is introduced to the season as a friend of Jackie's and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Draya resulting with an argument between the two. She forms another rivalry with Jackie resulting in and altercation between the two, they later make amends. She also bumps heads with Angel Brinks almost resulting in an altercation between the two.
- Shaunie O'Neal (Season 4-5) -- Ex-wife of Shaquille O'Neal is introduced in season four as a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Brandi after she calls her a bitch. During the fifth season we see her try to rekindle her relationship with Brandi and be the peacemaker between the other rivalries in the group. - Angel Brinks (Season 5) (Recurring Season 4) -- Ex-girlfriend of Tyreke Evans is introduced in season four as a friend of Draya's and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Mehgan almost resulting in an altercation between the two. During season five the camera captures her rivalry with Malaysia and Jackie. We also see the struggle of her son's father passing.
- LaTosha Duffey (Season 5) -- Fiancée of Iman Shokouhzadeh, is introduced as a friend of Brandi's and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Angel resulting in a heated argument between the two. She also forms a rivalry with Tami almost resulting in a full out bawl between the two.
- Angel Love (Season 5) - Ex-girlfriend of DeJuan Blair. During season five Angel is introduced as Angel Brinks' friend and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Jackie. The two later make amends. She also forms a rivalry with Duffey resulting in a heated argument between the two.
- Tami Roman (Season 5) (Recurring Season 4) -- Ex-wife of Kenny Anderson is introduced in season four as a friend of Shaunie's and a new addition to the group. She forms a rivalry with Brandi almost resulting in an altercation between the two. During season five we see her struggles trying to get pregnant with Reggie Youngblood.
